10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not fun for a lot of us. But it should be done. As the winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your home?
The exterior of your home could likely use a little tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Milpitas, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save you money over the years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time of year to clean out your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris collect during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and animals are scavenging for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and returning them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows shouldn’t give you much of a problem, but second and third floor windows will be a bit trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring chore, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with not much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they won’t stain your home, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem strange because you’ll still be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washing service can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer, so it is easy to forget about it during the winter since you are not doing as much outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough condition the first time you go onto it in the spring.

Soap and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you may need to consider a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are typical roof problems in Milpitas. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles can’t be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal method for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then let it be. This will kill any organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Tidy up the Front

The front of your home is what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a clean exterior will immediately improve your day, and will encourage you to spend a lot more time outside.

You can clean your front porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will soon be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is an excellent time to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor work.

Yard tools as well as pool care equipment should all have an assigned area outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the exterior of your home much more throughout the time of year when you are going to spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a huge impact on the overall look of your home.

Remove weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably finish these jobs after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Milpitas Pressure Washing offers professional residential exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
